About Elambulassery

പഴയ വള്ളുവനാടിന്റെ ഭാഗമായിരുന്നു ഗ്രാമമായ എളമ്പുലാശ്ശേരി. അതിനും മുമ്പ് നെടുങ്ങനാട് എന്ന നാട്ടുരാജാവിന്റെ കീഴിലായിരുന്നു. നെടുങ്ങനാട് രാജാവിനെ വള്ളുവനാട് രാജാവ് കീഴടക്കിയതിനെത്തുടര്‍ന്ന് ഇവിടം വള്ളുവനാടിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി. വള്ളുവനാട് രാജാവില്‍ നിന്നും മൈസൂര്‍ സുല്‍ത്താന്മാര്‍ ഈ പ്രദേശം കൈക്കലാക്കി. പിന്നീട് എളമ്പുലാശ്ശേരി ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് അധീനതയിലായി. എളമ്പുലാശ്ശേരി ഇന്ന് പാലക്കാട് ജില്ലയിലെ ഒറ്റപ്പാലം താലൂക്കില്‍ കരിമ്പുഴ-2 വില്ലേജില്‍ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നു. ചെറുപിള്ള എന്ന ദേവതാസങ്കല്‍പ്പത്തില്‍ നിന്നും ‘ചെര്‍പ്പുളശ്ശേരി’ എന്ന സ്ഥലനാമം ഉണ്ടായതിനു സമാനമായാണ് എളമ്പുലാശ്ശേരി(ഇളം+പിള്ള+ചേരി) എന്ന സ്ഥലനാമവും രൂപം കൊണ്ടത് എന്നാണ് ഐതീഹ്യം. ചേരിയില്‍ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഒരു ഇളം പ്ലാവിന്‍ തൈ മൂലമാണ് (ഇളം+പിലാവ്+ചേരി) ഗ്രാമത്തിന് ആ പേര് വന്നത് എന്നൊരു വാദഗതിയും ജനങ്ങള്‍ക്കിടയിലുണ്ട്.

Economy

Elambulassery is a commercial hub and a base camp for many tourist destinations like Attappady, Silent Valley National Park, and Siruvani. It is the headquarters of Elambulassery Taluk, Elambulassery Educational District, Divisional Forest Headquarters and is one of the largest revenue Taluks in Kerala. Elambulassery town lies between two rivers, and the ghat road can be seen inside the town. It is an agricultural region whose main products include rubber, plantain, cinnamon, and pepper.

Mannarghat town is connected to other parts of India through Palakkad city. NH 544 connects the town with Coimbatore and Bangalore, while NH 66 connects it with other parts of Kerala. Calicut International Airport, Coimbatore International Airport are the nearest airports to the town. Shoranur Junction railway station is the nearest major railway station.
